What clients have to say.

Want to know what it’s like to work with a legal recruiter/career advisor like Jason McCann of Gridline Search + Consulting? Here are some unedited thoughts from attorney clients and advisees:

A friend from Harvard recommended Jason to me, and I am so glad she did! Jason’s advice and interview preparation (and pep talks) were absolutely invaluable. He has such a calming, positive energy and I really felt like he really cared about where I ended up. He took the time to flesh out all my answers/questions during our interview prep, and helped me figure out how to best frame my experience for my answers. I highly recommend him!

I knew Jason when I was a student at Harvard Law School and he was known as one of the most experienced, insightful and attentive advisors. After I started my career, Jason continues to generously offer advice. We had an one-hour conversation, where I asked questions on how to distinguish myself as a junior attorney, which areas should I work on to grow, and how should I set my career goals. Jason listened patiently, offered genuine advice with concrete information, and provided very specific details on how to achieve my goals and followed up by sending me helpful materials. There is no agenda in Jason’s advice-giving, other than helping the person seeking advice to realize his/her objectives. After receiving Jason’s advice, I started to feel more confident and steady, knowing exactly what steps to take and where to expend my effort. Working with Jason is an inspiring process. I am very thankful for his advice and I know I will continue benefiting from them for years to come.

I was lucky enough to have Jason as an advisor while in law school. When he started his company it was only logical I would rely on him in the same way I did in school. At no point in our relationship have I felt like just a client but rather rely on Jason for his wisdom and advice as a friend. He has always responded to my needs with attention and care and goes above and beyond in being generous with his time and advice.

When I first met Jason I was a mid level associate and knew I needed a job change from my existing law firm, but didn’t know where to begin. I knew I wanted to stay in Boston if at all possible, but that was all I had to go on. Jason asked me what my career goals where and where I saw myself in the future and created a detailed plan for my job search. He was always there to talk and walk me through every step of the process and to answer any questions I had on strategies for applying to law firms and for interviews. Jason focused on my strengths and adapted our strategy to take advantage of them. Following Jason’s plan was the first time I have ever looked for a job where I felt in control of the process and not just blindly sending resumes around the city. I ended up at a great new law firm In Boston and I couldn’t have done it without Jason and I can’t thank him enough. He is great to work with and a great person in general.

I reached out to Jason upon deciding to make an inter-city lateral move as a first year associate because I knew that his expertise combined with his strong interpersonal skills would provide the perfect balance of guidance and support. Jason listens with an empathetic and patient ear that immediately puts you at ease, and he knows when and how to ask the right questions. His insider’s knowledge of the industry enables him to give sound reliable advice that is invaluable for navigating the tough world of law recruiting. Jason never comes off as condescending or patronizing, unlike many other recruiters that I previously spoke with. He makes you feel like a team, as opposed to a client, and it is clear that he cares about the well-being and the interests of those whom he is advising. I appreciate that he is fully accessible over email, telephone, and even text messaging for those days that I am stuck in meetings but want a quick update on the progress of my application. At the end of the day, I always felt like I was in capable good hands.

I met Jason when I was in law school. He was a great career adviser, and helped me navigate finding the right career path as I graduated from law school. When I found myself looking to make a career change after practicing for a few years, I reached out to Jason and he, again, provided great advice. Jason met with me, discussed all my options, answered my numerous questions, and helped me brainstorm interview strategy. Jason followed up with me after our meeting and checked in periodically to make sure my applications were moving along. Job searching can be stressful and having Jason’s help and guidance made a huge difference.

Jason has been an extremely valuable career coach and advisor. During our conversations, he took the time to carefully understand my career goals and priorities, and then provided clear, actionable, and timely advice. His knowledge of the legal industry is very strong, and there is no doubt that working with Jason during the interview process provided me with a distinct advantage. When urgent, last minute questions popped up, Jason was ready to jump on the phone to talk through my questions. Many recruiters I spoke with seemed to be pressuring me into pursuing opportunities that would enable them to get a fee, but Jason provided unbiased advice that always seemed to be in my own best interest. I would strongly encourage anyone who is thinking about making a career move or preparing for an interview to speak with Jason.

Jason was one of the best career advisors I’ve ever had—in both law school and college. He went above and beyond to make sure that I got the best job possible, with as much information as possible. His enthusiasm and diligence were infectious and made the job hunting process much less stressful than it could have otherwise been. We have continued to keep in touch since I graduated from law school, and he has continued to be both an inspiration and a trusted source of advice.

Jason not only has deep industry expertise and a practical perspective, but also genuinely cares about his advisee’s personal goals. I was struck by how he listened and asked questions about my niche practice area focus. He then helped me throughout the job hunt process to achieve my goals, from selecting among the firms given my interests and credentials, reviewing my resume and cover letter, preparing for the interviews, to selecting among the offers. He is also a genuinely warm person and a great champion. I would trust him to navigate through the daunting job hunt process with success.
